Indico Brings Unstructured Data Automation to the UiPath RPA Table

October 14, 2021 | Machine Learning, Robotic Process Automation, Unstructured Data

Back to Blog

UiPath recently announced enhancements to its Robotic Process Automation Platform that collectively make it easier for customers to build automation models and to integrate the platform with other applications and data sources.

All of this is good news for UiPath customers. But the announcements, made at UiPath’s Forward IV event in Las Vegas, also further cements Indico’s partnership with UiPath as the solution for enabling its RPA platform to address unstructured data automation.

New UiPath capabilities

A big component of the announcements was the UiPath Integration Service. UiPath says enterprises typically use 175 applications or more across cloud and on-premises environments. The Integration Service is intended to deliver “API automation to help companies optimize the technology they already have,” the company says. The idea is help companies more quickly build automation routines that utilize both user interface (UI) automation and APIs to other applications.

The latest release also addresses endpoint security for RPA through a partnership with CrowdStrike. “Joint UiPath and CrowdStrike customers now can enjoy the same level of endpoint protection for robots as they have for people,” UiPath says.

Additionally, a new Robot Auto-healing capability is intended to continually assess robots’ runtime environments and detect and remediate any issues.

“We’re delivering on making automations easier to build, expanding automation use cases, and ensuring we provide reliability, security, and governance to support enterprise-level, mission-critical processes,” said UiPath co-founder and CEO Daniel Dines.

Indico extends reach of RPA to unstructured data

Automating enterprise-level, mission-critical processes is likewise a great fit with the Indico Unstructured Data Platform. Indico Data complements UiPath’s RPA platform because we can essentially extend the reach of RPA, enabling it to automate processes involving unstructured data.

On their own, RPA platforms can automate processes that involve structured data and, to some extent, semi-structured data such as (some) invoices and emails. (Caveats abound here, as this blog post makes clear.)  But by pairing an RPA tool with the Indico Data platform, companies can now bring unstructured data into the mix.

The Indico Unstructured Data Platform employs artificial intelligence technologies including machine learning, transfer learning and natural language processing. It’s also built on top of a database of some 500 million labeled data points. Applying AI to all those data points enables the platform to read and understand unstructured data and content just as a human does.

Marrying the Indico Data platform with an RPA tool opens up all sorts of new process automation use cases as well as unstructured data analytics. The Indico Data platform ingests unstructured data and turns it into a structured format. Now you can feed the data to an RPA tool and let it conduct further processing or feed it to an analytics engine to glean business intelligence. Such unstructured data analytics was long a pipe dream, but with Indico Data it’s a reality.

The same goes for intelligent process automation with unstructured data. Now you can address use cases such as enterprise-wide invoice processing, financial document analysis, insurance claims processing, and many more that were out of reach with RPA alone.
